What foods protect enamel?
Fiber-rich foods are best, especially vegetables. Many foods are acidic, contain sugar, or are carbs that break down into sugar. When we eat these, it’s very helpful to finish with water. Water helps to neutralize acids, wash away bacteria and the food particles they metabolize into acid. The sugar substitute/sweetener xylitol is a natural product that inhibits bacteria, making it a healthy choice. Also, chocolate that is high in cocoa content is healthier because it also inhibits bacteria, and these “better” chocolate products have less sugar. READ MORE
How do you get rid of a gum infection without antibiotics?
Most importantly, the gum infection requires an accurate diagnosis. If a dentist diagnoses an abscess originating from inside the tooth, then a root canal or extraction is indicated. Untreated, this can become an acute emergency. If the gum infection is mild/early gum disease, a valid therapy known as oil pulling can be affective. The technique is simple. Swish with a half oz. of almond oil for 20 minutes once per day. There are other causes of gum infection. Please see a dentist to identify the cause and appropriate care. READ MORE
