Born and raised in Venezuela, Dr. Silva completed his medical studies, including a residency in ophthalmology at Central University of Venezuela. Following residency, he performed advanced training in glaucoma at both the Venezuelan Association for the Advancement of Ophthalmology in Caracas and at the Glaucoma Centre of the Quinze-Vingts National Ophthalmology Hospital in Paris, France. While in Paris, he worked under the mentorship of Christophe Baudouin, a worldwide leader in glaucoma surgery and ocular surface disease, including dry eye syndrome.
In Venezuela, Dr. Silva was President of the Venezuelan Glaucoma Society, and had a boutique ophthalmology practice for several years before relocating to the United States. During his transition in the United States, he completed a research and clinical glaucoma fellowship at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai under the mentorship of Robert Ritch.
Demonstrating his desire to practice at the top of his profession, the doctor remains an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Glaucoma Society, the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology, the Venezuelan Society of Ophthalmology, the Venezuelan Glaucoma Society, the Ibero-American Glaucoma Society, and the World Glaucoma Association. He is also often invited to present at conferences and professional meetings worldwide.
