Get to know Anesthesiologist Dr. Alfreda Miller-Coleman, who serves patients in Johns Creek and Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Miller-Coleman is a board-certified anesthesiologist who is affiliated with Emory Johns Creek Hospital in Johns Creek, Georgia & Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Both are a part of Emory Healthcare, which is an integrated academic healthcare system committed to providing the best care for patients, educating health professionals and leaders for the future, pursuing discovery research in all of its forms, including basic, clinical, and population-based research, as well as serving the community.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1999 when she earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She then went on to complete her internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in 2000, followed by her residency in anesthesiology at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2003. 

In addition to being a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Medical Association, Dr. Miller-Coleman is board-certified in both anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the mission of the ABA is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. 

Attributing her success to her faith, Dr. Miller-Coleman is inspired every day by her patients and she continues to help others to the best of her ability. She feels that it is an honor to be able to gain patients’ trust and to care for them in some of their most vulnerable times.
