Dr. Blockson is originally from West Palm Beach, Florida. She graduated Cum Laude at University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and dual minor in Psychology and Chemistry. She completed her medical education at Howard University in Washington, DC in 2007. Dr. Blockson then went on to complete her pediatric residency at Miami Children's Hospital in 2010.
Dr. Blockson started her career at Merchant Pediatrics in June of 2010. She was nominated as Vice Chair of the Pediatric Department in 2018 and subsequently became Chair in 2020. Her passion is patient care and she is dedicated to providing quality medical care and guidance.

What could be the cause of breathing issues in a baby?
It depends on what you mean by trouble breathing. Babies are often congested because their noses are very small and they cant blow yet like we can. Humidifiers help in this situation because it keeps the mucous from getting thick and clogging the airways. Viral illnesses are the most common cause of congestion. How can I help my child's cough at night?
Cough can be very distressing for a child (and their sleepless parent!), but can generally be managed with simple home remedies. Use of a humidifier or steam bath loosens up the mucous, making it easier to manage. If the child is old enough, cough drops can help soothe an itchy throat that may be the cause of the cough. Children over 1 can take a tablespoon of honey. Remember that cough is a response to an illness, not the illness itself.
