Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Lapaix graduated with his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Sto Domingo in the Dominican Republic in 1962, founded in 1538.  After relocating to the United States, he served his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai at Elmhurst.

To date, the doctor holds over six decades of experience in his field. He is an active member of the American College of Physicians, a national organization of internists who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of adults.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists.
