Dr. Vertovec is a veteran emergency physician with career long involvement in trauma care and education. She has a lifelong interest in the environment and is using her environmental and integrative medicine knowledge to promote patient healing and health through diet, physical activity, and lifestyle choices.

A part of Northwestern Medical Group, she is an attending physician within the Emergency Department at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital. She is also on medical staff at Northwestern Medicine Emergency Center Grayslake and Northwestern Medicine Grayslake Outpatient Center, and is affiliated with Osher Center for Integrative Health at Northwestern University.

Northwestern Medicine offers comprehensive emergency services and the highest level of care to any patient with any condition at multiple locations throughout Chicago and surrounding suburbs. The goal of emergency and trauma treatment is to stabilize patients and help them through the acute phase of their illness or injury. Northwestern Medicine uses advanced diagnostic testing and imaging services along with emergency care specialists for evaluation and treatment of complicated medical conditions. 

Earning her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in 1986, Dr. Vertovec went on to perform her residency in emergency medicine at the University of Illinois Medical Center in 1989.

Board-certified in emergency medicine, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional standing, and examination standards.

To boot, Dr. Vertovec is a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM). The ABOIM was formed to provide physicians who practice integrative medicine the means to demonstrate that they have mastered the core competencies necessary to provide the best medical care possible.

Holding fellowship status, Dr. Vertovec is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP).

Emergency medicine, also known as trauma and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of life threatening medical conditions or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. They are trained to care for a wide range of problems that require emergent medical help. These problems are often serious and may be life-threatening.
