Dr. Okechukwu is a practicing nephrologist and the Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania. He is committed to providing high-quality care for patients with hypertension and kidney disease, with an emphasis on prevention and treatment, as well as advancing medical care in developing countries.
Crozer-Chester Medical Center, a part of Crozer Keystone Health System, is Delaware County’s premier destination for advanced clinical care. This 300-bed facility is home to the county’s first cardiothoracic surgery program, a renowned neurosciences team, the largest group of psychiatrists in the region, and a comprehensive range of specialty and tertiary-care services.
In practice since 1995, Dr. Okechukwu is also a part of the team at Clinical Renal Associates, Ltd. (CRAL), a nephrology practice with doctors in various locations across Southeast Pennsylvania. He is affiliated with: CRAL Brinton Lake, CRAL Glen Mills, CRAL Healthplex, CRAL Riddle Pavilion, CRAL Ridley Park, and CRAL Upland.
Specializing in the care of kidney diseases, including kidney transplantation, as well as the management of critically ill patients, the doctor holds admitting privileges at Springfield Hospital and Taylor Hospital. In addition, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor (Adjunct) of Medicine at the Temple University School of Medicine, and as a member of the Leadership Board of Global Health Consultants.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Nigeria College of Medicine, Dr. Okechukwu did his post-graduation training in surgery in the United Kingdom. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut, Farmington, followed by a fellowship in nephrology and renal transplantation at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Named a “Top Doc” by the Philadelphia Magazine for 6 successive years, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Among the status of his professional affiliations, he is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, and a member of the American College of Physicians.
Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease.
