  • Posterior laminectomy and fusion

C5 palsy following posterior laminectomy is not a common but not a rare complication. The C5 root is highly sensitive to manipulation, and just decompressing the root may lead to the sudden change. It is a distressing issue for the patient and the surgeon, but in my experience it typically improves with time and PT. It may take 4-8 months to recover. I cannot really comment on the necessity for anterior surgery without seeing the films prior to that decision. iPhone X transmission READ MORE

  • Back pain

Not possible to make a diagnosis with that description. Symptoms are always correlated with the imaging ( MRI, xrays both standing and bending, CT scan sometimes and occasionally nuclear medicine imaging to assess inflammation ).. treatment options will vary based on the images and an examination, not just the description of the symptoms. iPhone X transmission READ MORE

  • Do neurosurgeons do spinal surgery?

The answer is absolutely. We are trained from the beginning of our residency program in. Brain and spinal surgery with 6 years of training before we are out in practice. This is considerably longer training than orthopedic surgeons who take a 1-year post-residency fellowship to train in spinal surgery. Approximately 75% of a busy neurosurgical practice is treatment of spinal conditions, both conservative and surgical management, if needed. READ MORE
