Get to know Hospice and Palliative Care Specialist Dr. Dominic F. Glorioso Jr., who serves patients in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Glorioso is a distinguished medical professional with a rich background in hospice and palliative care. Currently serving as the Associate Medical Director at Amedisys Hospice Harrisburg West, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from 1978 to 1982. His commitment to academic excellence continued at Duquesne University, where he pursued a PhD in Healthcare Ethics and later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Bioethics/Medical Ethics.

Passionate about his profession, Dr. Glorioso is board-certified in hospice & palliative medicine and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Achieving fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI).

Holding membership status, Dr. Glorioso is an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the American College of Osteopathic Internists, and the American Osteopathic Association. 

As for his academic appointment, he served as a Preceptor at Drexel University School of Medicine since 2006, contributing to the training of future medical professionals. Additionally, he played a crucial role as a member of the Palliative Care Advisory Team at York Hospital from 2001 to 2004 and later took on the position of Lead Educator in Palliative Care at WellSpan York Hospital from 2004 to 2015.

Hospice and palliative medicine is a formal subspecialty of medicine in the United States that focuses on symptom management, relief of suffering, and end-of-life care. Hospice and palliative medicine specialists are medical doctors who help prevent and relieve suffering of patients who have a serious illness or who have only a short time left to live. They work with a team of other professionals to address the needs of both the patient and loved ones.

Among his various accolades, Dr. Glorioso has been the recipient of the Excellence in Physician/R.N. Collaboration Award in 2010 from York Hospital.
