How long does a hip replacement take to heal?
Everyone is different, and every surgical approach is different. In general , most people are doing what they want to do by 6 to 8 weeks with an approved therapy program. But I tell everyone that it takes a minimum of 6 months to "forget you did it." partial vs full joint replacment
With respect to knees, I am not a fan of partial knee replacement. Once in a while I will see one that is 10 or 15 years out and still doing well but that is the exception. Most partials have to be converted to Total knees because the arthritis in the rest of the knee progresses and may need a Total replacement in a little as 6 months. Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Douglas G. Nuelle, who serves patients in Blairsville, Georgia.
With more than four decades of experience in the field of orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Nuelle specializes in general orthopaedics and total knee replacement. He can be found on staff at Blue Ridge Orthopaedics, inside Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia. Union General Hospital opened as a small outpatient clinic in 1959 but since then has evolved into one of the most modern, state-of-the-art hospitals in Georgia.
Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Nuelle ran a successful 20-year practice through his previous practice, Charlotte Orthopaedic Clinic, in Port Charlotte, Florida. His career includes being the first in the world to perform arthroscopic surgery of the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ). He also holds patents on devices relating to TMJ treatment and has developed another device to assist surgeons in quantifying the soft tissue tension during total knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Nuelle has been involved in regenerative medicine for over 20 years. He has lectured around the country on his experience in the use of platelet-rich plasma and Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate in the treatment of Osteoarthritis. He also is a pioneer in the development of Lacrimer ™ (Autologous PRP Eye Drops), in conjunction with national ophthalmologists for the treatment of corneal surface disorders.
In regards to his educational background, Dr. Nuelle earned his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri in 1973. He then went on to complete his surgical internship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, followed by his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Willis C. Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee.
Additionally, Dr. Nuelle served in the United States Navy on a submarine tender in Guam from 1974 to 1976. In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
