Dr. Grant Hoekzema is a family physician practicing in Saint Louis, MO. Dr. Hoekzema specializes in comprehensive health care for people of all ages. In addition to diagnosing and treating illnesses, family practitioners also put focus on preventative care with routine checkups, tests and personalized coaching on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Hoekzema possesses immense general knowledge on maintaining health and today, family practitioners provide more care for the underserved and rural populations than any other medical specialty.
Grant Hoekzema, MD is a graduate of Calvin College (1988) and Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis (1992). He stayed in St. Louis for residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, now Mercy Hospital, St. Louis.
Dr. Hoekzema joined the Mercy Family Medicine faculty in 1995 after completing residency. He completed a NIPDD fellowship in 1997-98, and he served as the Program Director for the Mercy Family Medicine Residency in St. Louis from 1999 to 2017. He is now the Sr. Associate Program Director at Mercy. He was named Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis in July 2016 and currently serves in that role as well. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine for St. Louis University SOM and University of Missouri, Columbia, SOM. He is a Clinical Instructor for the Department of Internal Medicine, General Medicine Division, at Washington University in St. Louis. He holds a clinical teaching appointment with AT Still College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Hoekzmea has been actively involved at a national level with Family Medicine Residency training as a board member of the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors from 2009-2011, then serving as President-elect, President and past-President of the AFMRD in 2011-14. He also served as Chair of the Council of Academic Family Medicine in 2013-2014 and was the AFMRD representative for the steering committee of Family Medicine for America’s Health. He was a representative to the ACGME Milestones 2.0 task force for Family Medicine. He currently sits on the In-Training Examination Review Committee for the American Board of Family Medicine and was selected to join the ACGME Review Committee for Family Medicine in July 2016, where since July 2020, he now serves as Chair.
