Get to know Cardiologist Dr. George Vettiankal, who serves patients throughout the State of Texas.

A proven cardiologist, Dr. Vettiankal is renowned for his expertise in the fields of Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Echocardiography. With a comprehensive medical background, he has made significant contributions to patient care, research, and medical education.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the School of Medicine at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Notably, he undertook an internship in Internal Medicine at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, affiliated with New York University in Jamaica, New York. 

Furthermore, Dr. Vettiankal completed his residency at Marshall University School of Medicine, serving as Chief Resident in Huntington. Prior to this, he engaged in internal medicine training at both Marshall University and General Hospital Trivandrum in Kerala, India, showcasing his commitment to a global medical education.

He completed an Adult Cardiologist Fellowship Training Program within the Department of Cardiovascular Services at Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Further refining his specialization, the doctor pursued an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the same institution. This additional training honed his skills in procedures aimed at treating cardiovascular conditions with minimally invasive techniques.

Passionate about his profession, Dr.Vettiankal is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Holding membership status, he is an active member of several professional associations, including the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Coronary Angiography and Intervention, he remains dedicated to staying at the forefront of advancements in his field.

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, Dr. Vettikal is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial System and Woodland Heights Medical Center.

As for his academic appointment, he served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in disciplines ranging from General Internal Medicine to Palliative Medicine and Medical Education at the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY. His role as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Marshall University reflects his commitment to fostering the growth of aspiring medical professionals. Furthermore, Dr. Vettikal’s dedication to medical education extended to his position as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
