Leading the Way in Family Medicine Education and Healthcare Transformation

Leanne M. Chrisman-Khawam, MD, MEd, a highly regarded family physician, has been making significant strides in the field of family medicine education and healthcare transformation at MetroHealth’s Broadway Health Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Joining the center in 2011, she has been dedicated to providing comprehensive health care services to children, adults, and seniors with a focus on excellence and compassion.

Currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine in the Department of Social Medicine at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Chrisman-Khawam also holds the position of Director of Transformative Care Continuum. In this role, she leads an accelerated undergraduate to family medicine residency program aimed at preparing future leaders to drive positive change in the healthcare system. Her expertise spans behavior change, healthcare communications, leading change in health systems, curricular redesign, and competency assessment strategies.

Dr. Chrisman-Khawam’s academic journey includes obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Willamette University in 1989, followed by a Medical Degree from Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine in 1993. She completed her internship and residency in family medicine at Inland Empire Family Medicine (Washington) from 1993 to 1996, showcasing her commitment to continuous learning and development in the medical field.

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Chrisman-Khawam is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, aligning her practice with the highest standards of care and professionalism. Her research contributions have been published in reputable journals such as the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine and the Journal of American Osteopathic Association. Additionally, her work has been presented at prestigious national conferences including the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Annual Conference and the American Medical Association (AMA) ACE Annual Spring Consortium, among others.
