Dr. Mark Sutton, MD's Expert Contributions
  • Wound on forehead

It looks like you have a “rug burn” and that you are putting some type of ointment on it. You are doing the right thing. I prefer Vaseline and keeping it out of the sun. It should be healed in 2 weeks but the pigmentation can last for months if you are darker skinned. READ MORE

  • non healing small wound

I would need to see the wound to answer properly, but if it can take a long time to heal when you are on steroids. I mange a lot of different types of wounds and would recommend seeing your Dermatologist READ MORE

  • Skin growth

It is most likely an irritated skin tag or pyogenic granuloma. I would recommend a shave biopsy to remove it and have it examined by a pathologist. This should be done by a Dermatologist. READ MORE

  • What is this?

It looks like Impetigo. The treatment is Mupirocin ointment. You could add an oral antibiotic like Keflex since it is so extensive. They could probably order it from India and have it shipped to them. READ MORE

  • You guys help me identify this rash

This could be a skin cancer or granuloma annulare. I would get seen by your dermatologist to make sure and get a biopsy. READ MORE

  • Cyst

For the short term it could be normal from squeezing it out. The worse case scenario is getting a secondary skin infection called cellulitis which can be painful. If it doesn’t get better, go see your doctor READ MORE

  • Small bump

That needs to be biopsied by your dermatologist READ MORE

  • Itchy patch

It is probably just a patch of eczema. Try over the counter Hydrocortisone twice a day. If it doesn’t go away then go see your dermatologist READ MORE

  • Mole

It looks normal in the picture but I would still have it looked at. READ MORE

  • I have a strange rash on hand.

That needs a strong steroid cream. Also avoid scratching, hand sanitizer and repetitive washing READ MORE

  • Acne

Go see your dermatologist. They can give you medication that is covered by your insurance so you don’t have to spend a lot. There are lots of ways to treat this to get you better. READ MORE

  • I would like to know if anemia is the cause of my hair loss?

It most likely is. Anemia is a well known cause of telogen effluvium, which I believe is that type of hair loss that you are experiencing. The good news is that it will get better when the anemia improves. READ MORE

  • Dry Skin

I have seen this problem quite a few times. It is not any easy one to manage, depending on the severity. There is no known cure. In Europe they us Acitretin with some success, for severe disease. Also topical Tazarotene is beneficial. Soaking in a tub to help reduce the thickness helps as well. Moisturizers that are called emollients help the most. Staying hydrated is also important. I would recommend seeing are dermatologist. Good luck my friend. READ MORE

  • Can genital warts have hair growth from them

I would agree with your doctor. They look like Seborrheic Keratosis and not moles. As you get older you will acquire more. Your mom or dad probably have them too. Of course to be 100% sure you would have to see a dermatologist. I hope that helps. READ MORE

  • Dermatologist

Pimples and the marks that they leave behind can be pitted scaring or just pigmentation changes. Treatment consists of lifestyle changes such as drinking only water, avoiding processed food and sugar, sleeping 8 hours, exercising, and skin care. Make sure you get a good cleanser and you can start using Adapalene at night Benzoyl peroxide in the morning, which are over the counter. Start out 3 times a week to get used to it and increase to nightly and daily over time. If that’s nut working visit your dermatologist for more options. READ MORE

  • What are these bumps that are appearing on my arm

It’s hard to tell by your pictures. Ringworm is a fungal disease and is not treated with a steroid cream but an antifungal like Clotrimazole. This doesn’t look fungal. I would go see your dermatologist because there are many questions that we would ask to determine what you have. Also looking at it in person helps immensely. READ MORE

  • Skin problem and product suggestions

I’m sorry to hear about your battle. It seems like you have been the over the counter route and have failed. Acne is a combination of hormones, oil, bacteria and your body’s ability to fight off this condition. We know that sugar, junk food, lack of sleep, soda, lack of water and an unhealthy lifestyle makes acne worse. OTC products that work are Adapelene and Benzoyl Peroxide. However they can cause some skin irritation at first so you should start out slow. If that is not cutting it, you should see your dermatologist because we have lots of options. READ MORE
