Dr. Kenya Rivas, MD, FAAFP, CMD is the Assistant Team Lead, Medical Director for NaviHealth/OPTUM and Adjunt Faculty for the Geriatrics Department at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During her tenure at the University, Dr. Rivas was instrumental in establishing various Geriatrics education training programs for Geriatrics Fellows, residents of Internal and Family Medicine and medical students, rotating in the Geriatrics Department. Dr. Rivas was actively involved in teaching and mentoring during her role as an Assitant Professor and Vice-Chair of the Geriatrics Department. Dr. Rivas had had presented scientific posters at local and national level. Dr. Rivas had lectured at local, national e international conferences in the fields of Family Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Rivas has published in different peer-reviewed journals and co-authored a chapter in the Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice, "Evaluation and Management of the older Adult with Chronic Kidney Disease in 2014. Dr. Rivas was key in the successful implementation of two quality improvement projects: " Improving the management of Diabetes Mellitys in NH residents under strict Insulin regimen" and the " Antimicrobial Stewardship Program" both in a local VA Nursing home. Dr. Rivas currently serves as the Program Director for the FMDA CME Education Committe, and Chair of the poster committe  and CME committee member for the Society of Post Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (AMDA). Dr. Rivas specializes in comprehensive health care for people of all ages, specially in the Geriatrics arena. In addition to diagnosing and treating illnesses, Geriatricians also put focus on preventative care and on optimizing the quality of life of their patients.
