Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Jihan Hegazy, who serves patients in Modesto, California.

Dr. Hegazy, a valued general surgeon, joined the well-respected General Surgery group of First California Physician Partners in November of 2015. Her areas of expertise include general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and advanced robotic surgery.

She joins the office in Modesto, California after being the attending general surgeon for over 10 years at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia, and at Jeanes Hospital and Elkins Park Hospital in Pennsylvania. She also spent time as the attending general surgeon in New York and Aurora, Colorado.

The general surgeons at First California Physician Partners are physicians who have been educated and trained in the diagnosis and preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of patient care. Surgery requires knowledge of anatomy, emergency and intensive care, immunology, metabolism, nutrition, pathology, physiology, shock and resuscitation, and wound healing. Their areas of expertise include: general, peripheral, robotic, minimally invasive, and trauma.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Hegazy attended St. John’s University and finished medical school at Northeast Ohio Medical University. She then completed her internship and residency in general surgery at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester in New Rochelle, New York. 

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), she is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Licensed to practice medicine in California, Dr. Hegazy is affiliated with Doctors Medical Center of Modesto and Central Valley Medical Group.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care. 

Among her numerous accolades, Dr. Hegazy is the recipient of Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014, 2018), Patients’ Choice Award (2015, 2017, 2018), and On-Time Doctor Award (2018).

On a more personal note, she speaks multiple languages, including English and Arabic.
