A board-certified nephrologist in the Atlanta area since 2003, Dr. Hunter is in practice at Southeast Kidney Associates, treating patients at their Douglasville, Atlanta Midtown, and Carrollton locations. He specializes in all aspects of kidney disease with special emphasis on hypertension and home dialysis.
Southeast Kidney Associates provide comprehensive treatment for acute and chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, hypertension, kidney transplant, and electrolyte disorders. They are committed to providing the best patient care possible as well as promoting a family focused and friendly environment for all patients, staff and doctors.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Hunter attended the nearby Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. Graduating with honors, he was accepted into Georgetown University School of Medicine and four years later, he matched at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Western Reserve University. After successful completion of his residency in internal medicine, he decided to specialize in kidney diseases and hypertension. He later completed his fellowship in nephrology at the University of California at San Francisco.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in nephrology and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Among his other roles, he serves as a clinical nephrologist on the medical staff of seven hospitals in the Atlanta, Douglasville, and Marietta areas, and is the Medical Director for four Atlanta-area dialysis centers.
Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care or kidney transplantation when it becomes necessary.
When he is not working, Dr. Hunter enjoys music, reading, travel, and spending time with his family.
