Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Mark J. Coronel, who serves patients throughout the State of New York.

Well-versed in the field of gastroenterology, Dr. Coronel is in practice at East End Gastroenterology & Hepatology, working with patients in the Riverhead and Manorville areas. His primary interests include colon cancer screening, pancreatic disease, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) management, inflammatory bowel disease and biliary tract disease using ERCP, capsule endoscopy and small bowel enteroscopy procedures.

East End Gastroenterology & Hepatology is a single specialty gastroenterology and hepatology (liver disease) practice located on the East End of Long Island. Their staff are committed to the highest level of patient care and employ the latest technologies and newest procedures for an individualized approach to their patients’ medical needs. They offer a safe, convenient and friendly environment while striving for the highest standards in professionalism, responsiveness and attentive patient care in all aspects of digestive and liver diseases.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Coronel graduated magna cum laude from Yeshiva University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, and received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He did his internship and residency training in internal medicine at the Albert Einstein program, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, followed by gastroenterology and hepatology training in the North Shore-Long Island Jewish health system and a transplant hepatology rotation at Montefiore Medical Center.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in gastroenterology and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Professionally, he is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterological Association.

Among his other roles, Dr. Coronel serves as an attending physician at Peconic Bay Medical Center. where he currently serves as Director of Endoscopy for the hospital. He is also actively involved in teaching medical students, interns and residents in family medicine and surgery.

An avid researcher, he has been involved for several years in clinical research in gastroenterology and hepatology. He has authored and presented several abstracts, posters and oral presentations at national meetings. In 2006, he was honored by the American College of Gastroenterology with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Clinical Research and Best Scientific Paper. He was also invited into the Curatio National Inflammatory Bowel Disease mentorship program in 2010.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Among his various accolades, Dr. Coronel has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2015, 2014), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014), and On-Time Doctor Award (2014).
