Since 1935, when its first examination was delivered, the ABPN has been serving the public interest and promoting excellence in the practices of psychiatry and neurology through its certification and maintenance of certification processes. She currently practices within her private practice St. Mary’s Neurology Center and is affiliated with Florida Hospital Tampa and St. Joseph’s Hospital where she holds an expertise in diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. Neurologists commonly diagnose and treat the following conditions: strokes, epilepsy (seizures), headaches, dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease), multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and various forms of pain. Dr. Kavilaveettil graduated with her Medical Degree from Kottayam Medical College in India. After obtaining her Medical Degree she relocated to the United States and completed her internal medicine internship with the Christ Hospital and Medical Center. She then completed her Neurology residency with the University of Illinois at Chicago where she was named Chief Resident and was a recipient of the Resident Fellowship Award. Furthering her training she completed her Clinical Neurophysiology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine Fellowship with the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Kavilaveettil holds over two decades of experience in her field. Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and disease involving the central and peripheral nervous systems (and their subdivisions – the autonomic and somatic nervous systems), including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissue, such as muscle. Neurological practice relies heavily on the field of neuroscience, which is the scientific study of the nervous system.
