Get to know Oncologist Dr. Gregory A. Vidal, who serves patients throughout the State of Tennessee. 

Dr. Vidal, a renowned medical oncologist, holds pivotal roles at West Cancer Center & Research Institute, serving as a partner, the Director of Clinical Research, and Lead of the AIRSITE Alliance. 

Among his other roles, Dr. Vidal chairs the Breast Disease Group at One Oncology, practices as a medical oncologist at Regional One Health Cancer Center, and serves as the President and Co-Founder of the non-profit organization “Teuke Ouhayo.”

As an Associate Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, he dedicates a significant portion of his time to research focused on breast patients and addressing health inequity issues.

Dr. Vidal’s educational journey includes earning Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of Mississippi, followed by obtaining his Medical and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Tulane University School of Medicine. 

Following medical school, he completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology and oncology at Stanford Hospital and Clinic, where he served on faculty for a year before moving to Memphis.

Board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine, Dr. Vidal is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist. An oncologist is a doctor who treats cancer and provides medical care for a person diagnosed with cancer. They lead a cancer treatment team of various healthcare professionals, treat patients with radiation therapy, coordinate treatment plans and prescribe various types of treatment, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as assist patients with pain management.

Throughout his career, Dr. Vidal has received several prestigious awards and honors, highlighting his outstanding contributions to the field. Notable recognitions include the IRISE KL-2 Career Development Award in 2015, participation in the Cancer Education Consortium’s Annual Cancer Therapeutics and Drug Development in 2013, and attendance at the Molecular and Translational Workshop in the same year. Additionally, he received the Travel and Attendance Fellows Award at the 30th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference in 2012. 

His commitment to advancing cancer research is further underscored by his participation in events such as the American Association for Cancer Research/American Society of Clinical Oncology Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop in 2011. His early career achievements include being inducted into the International Student Hall of Fame in 2001, receiving the Andy Martin Research Scholar Award in 2008, and obtaining the DOD Pre-Doctoral Training Award from 2003 to 2005.

Considered an authority in breast cancer, Dr. Vidal lectures both nationally and internationally.  His proficiency in drug development and clinical trials makes him a sought-after expert in his field.

Having earned acclaim for his contributions, he has received honors from esteemed institutions such as the Cancer Education Consortium, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the Stanford Society of Physician Scholars. His research findings are published in reputable professional journals, further solidifying his reputation as a distinguished figure in breast cancer research and treatment.

Beyond his professional commitments, Dr. Vidal enjoys mentoring, spending time with his children, and engaging in outdoor activities.
