Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Robert J. Summerlee, who serves patients in Bradenton, Florida.

Dr. Summerlee is a board-certified gastroenterologist who can be found on staff at Intercoastal Medical Group – Lakewood Ranch II in Brandenton, Florida.

After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Dr. Summerlee went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. 

Upon graduation, he completed his residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, followed by his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Before long, he became board-certified in internal medicine, with subspecialty certification in gastroenterology, by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.
