Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. James M. Jochum, who serves patients in Florida.

Dr. Jochum is a board-certified ophthalmologist who practices at Florida Eye Clinic. He sees patients at the offices in Altamonte Springs and Orange City, Florida. 

The Florida Eye Clinic was founded in 1973. At that time, it consisted of one ophthalmologist practicing in a small office in Altamonte Springs. During the past four decades, Florida Eye Clinic has grown to include 13 ophthalmologists and 13 optometrists practicing in 12 locations across Central Florida, from Clermont to Winter Springs, from Kissimmee to Ormond Beach. The main office, in Altamonte Springs, is a 30,000 square foot building that also houses a state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgical Center with three operating suites.

Professionally, Dr. Jochum is also the current Chairman of the Department of  Ophthalmology for all Advent Health Hospitals of Central Florida. He is an active investigator in several national clinical research trials. 

Military experience, he is a retired Captain, US Navy with 28 years of service and assignments around the globe as a Naval Flight Surgeon and Ophthalmologist. 

Dr. Jochum graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine, then completed his internship at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida, followed by Naval Aerospace Medical Institute Flight Surgeon training and then Ophthalmology residency at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. 

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

 Additionally, he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, the Society of Military Ophthalmologists, and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, retina, strabismus, oculoplastic and corneal surgery and provide office care for all eye diseases.
