Dr. Selber is an exceptional plastic surgeon currently serving as the Vice-Chair, Director of Clinical Research, and Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He is an expert in microvascular reconstructive surgery, specializing particularly in head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction, robotics, microsurgery, and abdominal wall reconstruction.
Moreover, he is known for his innovative work in the field of vascularized composite allotransplantation, including the scalp, skull, kidney-pancreas transplant, and reconstructive monozygotic twin transplant.
With a background in studio art from Brown University, Dr. Selber went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University. He then completed a residency in plastic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in microvascular reconstructive surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.
As a leading researcher and practitioner in robotic plastic surgery techniques, he has delivered lectures and instructed at over 300 national and international conferences, and has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Selber has been involved in MD Anderson’s geographic expansion efforts, launching and leading the partnership with MD Anderson at Cooper for 6 years and working closely with administration in strategic clinical and business development in the regional market.
