I am on chemo for follicular NHL?
Monoclonal antibody therapy with Rituxan in combination with Bendamustine chemotherapy is an excellent first-line treatment for follicular non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. After cycle one, I always change IV Rituxan to the SQ version Hycella which takes a matter of minutes to give. This is an outpatient protocol and in most instances, I give growth factor support with long-acting G-CSF which prevents dangerous decreases in the white blood cell count. READ MORE
How can I lower my hemoglobin levels?
The most common reason for an elevation of the red cell count is cigarette smoking. This results in chronic lung disease and reduced levels of oxygen. The response of the bone marrow is to make excess red blood cells. This is referred to as Secondary Erythrocytosis. The best advice is to consult with a Hematologist and to discontinue cigarette smoking all together. READ MORE
What is the treatment for thrombosis in the leg?
The treatment I advise for such problems is Xarelto 15 mg Q 12 for 21 days and then 20 mg daily. I then follow the patient in the clinic and at 6 months check for a specific clotting disorder. If that panel is negative then I convert the patient to Aspirin. READ MORE
Can you walk after a bone marrow biopsy?
After every bone marrow test I have done in the past 35 years, my patient was able to walk without difficulty. READ MORE
Can low iron cause behavior problems?
That is very possible. With a decrease in the iron, the red cell count declines which causes fatigue and shortness of breath. READ MORE
