Dr. Higgins has been a practicing vitreous-retinal surgeon specializing in medical and surgical disease in northern New Jersey for the past 18 years and is the Founder of the Retina Center of New Jersey with offices in Bloomfield, North Bergen, Ramsey, Teaneck, Union, and Wayne, New Jersey. In addition, he is an attending physician at Metro Eye Care in Paramus, and Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.

The Retina Center of New Jersey was founded in 2010 by Dr. Patrick Higgins in Bloomfield, New Jersey, specializing in diseases/surgery of the retina, vitreous and macula. They are a leader in comprehensive vitreo-retinal eye care. They strive to provide top-notch care in a comfortable, professional atmosphere. Academically, Dr. Higgins attended the University of Scranton as a pre-med major and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He was selected to the AOE National Honor Society and also played varsity baseball for the University of Scranton for three years. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).

Subsequently, he completed an internship at St. Barnabas Medical Center and then returned to UMDNJ where he completed his residency in ophthalmology at the New Jersey Eye Institute. He completed a one-year medical retina fellowship at New York University, and a second surgical retina fellowship at the Touro Eye Infirmary.

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Among his other roles, Dr. Higgins can be found on staff at HMH Hackensack University Medical Center, Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, and Holy Name Medical Center, Teaneck.

With extensive experience in research, he has participated in over sixty clinical trials dating back to 1998, which included working on clinical trials for many of the pharmaceuticals that are currently being used as standard of care in the retina/ophthalmology field today.
