Get to know Urologist Dr. Paulos Yohannes, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.
An experienced urologist, Dr. Yohannes is in practice at Encore Urology, working with patients in Naples, Marco Island, and Bonita Springs, Florida. He is one of the pioneers of robotic urologic surgery in the United States, performing the first robotic cystoprostatectomy for bladder cancer (2003), robotic intracorporeal ileal conduit urinary diversion (2004), and robotic repair of retrocaval ureter (2004).
As a urology practice, Encore Urology’s mission is to provide the same or greater level of urological care to patients that they would receive at the finest academic institutions, but in a more private setting and with a more personal and intimate approach. Their emphasis is on embracing new technology and training along with exceptional and dedicated staff. Their goal is to deliver unprecedented care from presentation and diagnosis to treatment and then ongoing follow-up.
In regards to his educational background, Dr. Yohannes received his medical degree from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine and then completed his residency training in general surgery and urology at the University of Kentucky, Albert B. Chandler Medical Center and University of Louisville Hospital.
Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in endourology/laparoscopy at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he specialized in minimally invasive endourologic and laparoscopic surgery for the management of stone disease; testicular, bladder, kidney, and prostate cancer; percutaneous management of urothelial cancer, as well as reconstructive surgery of the upper and lower urinary tract.
Passionate about his profession, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology (ABU). The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, and working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.
Among his other roles, Dr. Yohannes is a reviewer for numerous peer reviewed journals, book chapters, and has proctored many surgeons around the country on their first prostatectomy and cystoprostatectomy surgical cases.
Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, prostate, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Yohannes has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including academic essay competitions, the William Brohm Award, Pfizer Scholar in Urology Award, and Kentucky Urologic Society Pyelogram Award. In addition, he has received recognition by Vitals for: The Compassionate Doctor Award, On Time Doctor Award, Patients’ Choice Award, Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctor Award, Gulfshore Life Magazine Top Doctors Award (2019, 2020, 2021), and Top Ten Doctors - State Award.
