Get to know Family Physician Dr. Cindy J. Uypitching, who serves patients in Santa Clarita, California.

A competent family physician, Dr. Uypitching works with patients at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clarita. A doctor who truly loves what she does, she takes the time to listen to patients’ concerns. She tries to treat each patient as if they were a member of her family.

“Getting to know members and their needs is important to me. I try to explore the underlying issues, which may be contributing to a condition, not just the condition itself. Perhaps it’s a bit of the philosophy major showing through, but I believe that a happy heart and mind leads to a healthy body” expressed the doctor.

Born in Ohio to parents who were both physicians, they moved back to the Philippines when she was 4 years old. She grew up seeing their good work but was not compelled to enter medicine. While rather reticent at the beginning, she gave it a shot, and it turned out she loved it. She earned her medical degree at the University of the East Medical Center in the Philippines but returned to the United States to do my internship and residency, first at UCSF-Fresno Medical Center’s internal medicine program and later at the USC/California Hospital family medicine residency program.

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

An authority in her field, Dr. Uypitching has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2013), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014, 2013), and On-Time Doctor Award (2014).
