Get to know Endodontist Dr. Christopher Sabourin, who serves patients in California.
Dr. Sabourin has been in private practice since October of 2004, operating out of his offices in Clovis and Fresno, California.
As a highly qualified endodontist, he has advanced training in root canal treatment, microsurgery, and other related procedures geared to save natural teeth. His workup includes specialized techniques in diagnosing the potential causes of head and neck pain, and his office was granted Oral Conscious Sedation certificate by the California State Board.
“I chose dentistry because I feel passionate about providing pain relief while also having a family life and my own business to run. Why endodontics? Growing up I had (correctable) extremely poor vision, so I felt right at home working in areas that are not very visible. The specialty felt magical to me, and I remain eternally grateful for the opportunity to be a member of our amazing profession” expressed Dr. Sabourin.
Beginning his studies locally, he graduated from Fresno State with a degree in Psychology. This has proved invaluable in both helping to create the most comfortable environment possible as well as guiding patients through their experience. After this, Dr. Sabourin earned a Master of Science degree in Human Physiology from Loma Linda University, where he began doing research in the dental field. He moved up to San Francisco to study at the UCSF School of Dentistry, one of the top dental schools in the country. He was fortunate to serve as the School Vice-President and then President, receiving several awards including a commendation from the Governor of California as well as the esteemed Pierre Fauchard Award in 2004.
During his time at the UCSF School of Dentistry, Dr. Sabourin created the undergraduate endodontics certificate program. After completing dental school, he began his specialty training, and was accepted into the University of Washington, Seattle for his Master of Science degree in Endodontics.
In the area of implant dentistry, he received education and training at the Misch International Implant Institute, the Ickert Dental Implant Teaching Centre, and the Pikos Surgical Institute.
To date, Dr. Sabourin has completed the IV sedation program at the University of Southern California, is a member of the DOCS Sedation Education Institute, and is one of the only root canal specialists in the Valley that is certified to offer adult conscious sedation for comfort.
Continuously advancing his efforts, he is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Fresno Madera Dental Society, and the California Dental Society. He is also both a member and Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
His areas of research included psychometrics, cellular biology research, materials research, and entrepreneurship/economics.
Endodontics is the dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of the dental pulp. Highly trained endodontists (dental specialists) repair tissues inside the tooth. They diagnose and treat complex causes of tooth pain, such as tooth abscesses (infection). They also perform root canal treatments and other procedures to relieve pain.
Among his philanthropic efforts, Dr. Sabourin is involved with Poverello House, a private, nonprofit organization that has been serving the hungry, homeless and destitute of Fresno, California since 1973.
Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his beautiful family, reading (hundreds of books a year), skydiving, watching gastrophysics stuff, economics, developing business systems, and spelunking.
