Born and raised in Bombay, India, Dr. Sumar earned his medical degree from the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences. Upon completion, he moved to the United States to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a cardiologist. While in New Jersey, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, followed by a fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Seton Hall University.

A Fellow of both the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography Interventions (FSCAI) and the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In his professional experience, Dr. Sumar currently serves as Chairman of the Cardiology Committee at West Valley Hospital in Goodyear where he is also the Cardiac Cath Lab Medical Director and on the Physician Leadership Council.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology.
