Get to know Anesthesiologist and Pain Management Specialist Dr. Marvin Faulkner, who serves patients in Lenexa, Kansas.

As a double board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management specialist, Dr. Faulkner provides a full spectrum approach to treating pain and considers all alternatives to effectively treat patients. He can be found on staff at MISH Hospital and Clinics in Lenexa, Kansas.

There, he convenes with patients and learns their medical and family history to ensure that he can efficiently administer the help they need. After examining his patients, he determines what makes them more functional and bases his procedures on their results.

Using a multi-disciplinary approach, he helps patients take an active role in managing their pain and regaining control of their life. The focus is on the whole patient, not just the pain, and the pain management treatment is tailored to one’s specific pain needs.

Establishing faith as a solid foundation for his lifestyle, Dr. Faulkner believes that God granted him the ability to satisfy his purpose: to help others in need. He decided to fulfill his desire to aid as many people as possible by pursuing a career in medicine.

After graduating with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at A.T. Still University in 1985, he went on to further his training. He performed his residency in anesthesiology at Mercy Health – St. Joseph Warren Hospital in 1989.

Dedicated to excellence, the doctor is board-certified in pain medicine and anesthesiology by the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology (AOBA). The AOBA is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the administration of anesthetic agents and perioperative medicine.

With over three decades of experience in the healthcare industry, Dr. Faulkner is an invaluable medical expert. He ensures that each patient receives high-quality care, remaining affiliated with Menorah Medical Center and Saint Luke’s South Hospital.

To continue to evolve in his field — and remain connected to frequent breakthroughs — he is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Medical Association, and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

Among an impressive repertoire of professional accomplishments, Dr. Faulkner is proud of raising his three children – Taylor, Ali and Gentry – each one whom he considers a great gift from God. He is a proud veteran as he served in the U.S. Army as active duty for eight years and inactive for 12. 

Enjoying reading and writing literature in his free time, he published a collection of short stories, “Days Gone By: Reflecting on Life’s Meaning with Humor & Hope” and “Letters to God: A Memoir”. Additionally, he wrote and produced a screenplay, “Between Heaven and Hell” in 2008, and was a Golden Gloves Amateur Boxing champion.

With a strong work ethic at hand, he attributes his success to his faith. He plans to continue to craft books and deliver speeches to educate others about his expertise.
