Get to know Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Mark E. Baker, who serves patients in Idaho.
Dr. Baker was born in Finland and moved to the states as a child, growing up in Sacramento. Going into oral surgery was an obvious choice for him because he always knew that he wanted to heal people and genuinely loves performing surgery.
In addition to his professional affiliation with Portneuf Medical Center, he practices alongside Dr. Shawn A. Jepsen at Oral Surgery Specialists of Idaho with offices in Pocatello, Blackfoot, and Preston, Idaho. They are southeast Idaho’s premier facial and oral surgery experts and perform the full scope of oral surgery services in the comfort of their welcoming practice, including dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, tooth extractions, TMJ treatment, sedation dentistry, and reconstructive surgery. Their primary goal is to ensure that each patient feels comfortable, safe, and at ease during their procedure, so they provide several anesthesia options at their practice, including in-office IV sedation, and, in some cases, general anesthesia.
After earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Baker went on to complete his residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
He is board-certified through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which is the only certifying board in the United States recognized by the American Dental Association for the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He also holds active memberships with the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the Idaho Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery specializes in surgery of the face, mouth, and jaws. It is an internationally recognized surgical specialty. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons perform surgery and related procedures on the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial regions to treat diseases, injuries, or defects, and to improve function or appearance.
When he is not tending to patients’ dental needs, Dr. Baker loves hunting, skiing, and spending time in the outdoors with his family. He is also on the board of Idaho Condor, a local organization that sends Idaho doctors and dentists to Peru with pre-med students for humanitarian work in indigenous villages. Whenever possible, the doctor also lends his time and talents to needy families in South America.
