Get to know Pain Management Specialist Dr. Daniel C. Callahan, who serves patients in Indiana.

Well-versed in the field of interventional pain management and neurology, Dr. Callahan is the Director of the Sullivan County Community Hospital Pain Management Center, with offices in Sullivan and Terre Haute. 

He specializes in the treatment of various types of pain, including neck pain, back pain, persistent pain after back or neck surgery, arthritis pain in neck or lower back, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CPRS), and more.

Sullivan County Community Hospital is a 25-bed critical access facility located on the north side of Sullivan, Indiana. It offers a variety of outpatient services including, but not limited to, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, laboratory services, outpatient surgery, respiratory therapy, radiology and emergency room. The hospital strives to provide an atmosphere of respect, love, caring, compassion, and excellence.

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Callahan started his career in medicine by earning his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in pain management at the University of Chicago, followed by a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology and autonomic disorders at Harvard University.

As a testament of his continued education, he is board-certified in interventional pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, which is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Published in academic journals, Dr. Callahan has also co-authored the book “Fundamentals of Pain Management”.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.
