Get to know Neurologist Dr. Amiram Katz, who serves patients in Orange, Connecticut. 

Dr. Katz is a board-certified neurologist who is currently serving patients at his private practice in Orange, Connecticut. There, he focuses on the treatment of the neurological complications of Lyme disease and neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative conditions associated with Lyme disease. 

Dr. Katz is also the Managing Director of DK Electronics, LLC in Orange, Connecticut. DK Electronics, LLC is an intellectual property owner that specializes in medical equipment. It is there that Dr. Katz invented and developed FlowKeepers® – a powered muscle stimulator that improves circulation. He conducted several IRB approved clinical trials that supported the efficacy of this device, which was approved by the FDA for consumer use in April of 2017.

Dr. Katz earned his medical degree from Sackler Faculty of Medicine – a medical school affiliated with Tel Aviv University, located in Israel. After serving as a combat physician in the Israeli army, he took his initial training in neurology in Israel, after which he served as the Commanding Officer of the Israeli Navy Hyperbaric Institute (INHI) where he was involved in R&D of medical and diving equipment.

In 1987, Dr. Katz came to the United States for a fellowship in epilepsy, sleep disorders and clinical neurophysiology initially at the Cleveland Clinic and then Yale University, where he also repeated his neurology training and received his board certification in neurology in 1993. 

Dr. Katz founded the Epilepsy Center at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut in 1993. There, he started seeing patients whose seizures were not epileptic, but something different—involuntary movements which turned out to be autoimmune complications of Lyme disease. “When the Lyme community hears about a doctor willing to listen to them, that information spreads like wildfire,” said Dr. Katz. He began seeing more and more Lyme patients and opened a private practice in Orange, Connecticut in 2002.

Dr. Katz was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology at the Yale University School of Medicine from 1993 until 2013. Dr. Katz has received numerous fellowship, scientific, teaching and service awards, including the Life Saving Award of the Milford Chief of Police in 1997. He has also been listed as America’s Best Professionals in 2016, Connecticut Top 10 Specialists in 2015, Professional of the Year in Neurology by World Wide Registry 2016, and Most Compassionate Doctor in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

Dr. Katz is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the public interest and the professions of psychiatry and neurology by promoting excellence in practice through certification and continuing certification processes.

Dr. Katz is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). The AAN strives to promote the highest quality patient-centered neurologic care and enhance member career satisfaction. Dr. Katz has compiled over a 100 published papers and abstracts in his fields of expertise. Dr. Katz speaks English and Russian.

It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and diseases involving the central and peripheral nervous systems, including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissue, such as muscle. Neurologists treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
