Triple Fellowship-Trained Specialist in Spine, Trauma, and Joint Reconstruction Delivering Advanced Care to Colorado
Intermountain Health is proud to announce the addition of Edward R. Anderson, MD, a board-certified, triple subspecialty fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine, trauma, and total joint reconstructive surgeon, to its team of medical professionals in Colorado. With extensive training and experience in minimally invasive spine surgery, complex spine reconstruction, and adult total joint reconstruction, Dr. Anderson is set to enhance patient care in the region.
Dr. Anderson, who moved 18 times during his childhood as the son of an Air Force service member, brings a diverse background and a wealth of knowledge to his practice. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Air Force Academy before earning his Medical Degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. His commitment to excellence is evident in his rigorous training—he completed a residency in orthopaedics at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, followed by fellowships in spine surgery and orthopaedic traumatology at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital and the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, respectively.
Throughout his career, Dr. Anderson has worked at leading medical centers, including serving as Chief of Spine Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery at the San Antonio Military Medical Center in Texas. He joined Intermountain Health in 2024, coming from the Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio, and currently practices at various locations, including the Intermountain Health Denver Clinic – Ortho Spine, East Crossroads Clinic – Spine Outreach, and Platte Valley Clinic – Spine. His hospital affiliations further extend to Lutheran Hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Platte Valley Hospital.
Dr. Anderson’s clinical expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of surgical techniques and patient care strategies. He specializes in minimally invasive procedures such as cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacement, endoscopic spine surgery, and both non-fusion and fusion-based spinal stabilization. His proficiency in adult total joint reconstruction includes performing minimally invasive direct anterior total hip replacements, knee replacements, and revision surgeries.
Deeply committed to education and mentorship, Dr. Anderson continues to serve as an Oral Examiner and Case Reviewer with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. His involvement in professional organizations, including the North American Spine Society, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeons, further underscores his dedication to advancing the field of orthopaedics.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Anderson has taught at organizations such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Military Training Network, and San Antonio Military Medical Center. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, presented his research both nationally and internationally, and has authored several textbook chapters and invited reviews.
Yet, Dr. Anderson is most passionate about providing comprehensive care to his patients. “I will ensure that my team and I will be our patients’ champions in providing compassionate, conservative, and, if necessary, surgical orthopaedic and spine care,” he stated. His success is rooted in the values instilled in him by his mentors and the discipline he gained from his Air Force upbringing.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Anderson enjoys family time with his wife and two adolescent children. His hobbies include golfing, snowboarding, skiing, canyoneering, kayaking, hiking, and flying—activities that reflect his adventurous spirit.
