Get to know Physiatrist Dr. Surya P. Raguthu, who serves patients in Texas.

Being a specialty-trained physiatrist, Dr. Raguthu is passionate about helping his patients enjoy life without suffering from chronic or acute pain. Using a comprehensive approach, he specializes in pain management, sports medicine, physical therapy, and rehabilitative medicine.

Serving as the Director of ACE Pain Management & Physical Therapy, Dr. Raguthu enjoys the daily interaction he has with people from all walks of life and forges a partnership with his patients. He treats a vast array of conditions including sports injuries; neck, back, shoulder and elbow pain; wrist/hand pain; hip, knee and ankle pain; carpal tunnel syndrome; cerebral and Bell’s palsy, and more. He also employs conservative, non-surgical treatments, including physical therapy, and advanced minimally-invasive treatments such as stem cell therapy and ultrasound-guided injection therapy. 

As an independent free standing pain facility with offices in Sugar Land and Brownsville, ACE Pain Management & Physical Therapy offers patients unprecedented quality of care and dedication in the management and treatment of pain. Dr. Raguthu and his team offer their expertise in the treatment of pain whether it is acute, chronic or malignant from the top of the head to the tip of the toes. They have a social mission to enhance the health and well-being of under-served seniors, adults, and children who live in neighboring communities by providing the highest quality service in the most cost-effective and ethical manner.

After earning his medical degree from Osmania Medical College in 1991, Dr. Raguthu relocated to the United States to pursue his training. Once there, he completed his internship in internal medicine at New York Methodist Hospital, followed by his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.

Striving for excellence in patient care, the doctor is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). The mission of the ABPMR is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is accomplished through a process of certification and maintenance of certification that fosters excellence and encourages continuous learning.

Likewise, Dr. Raguthu is board-certified through the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American Board of Pain Medicine, and the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners. He is a member of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Leading an impressive career, Dr. Raguthu developed programs specializing in administering physical, occupational, and speech therapy in acute, sub-acute, and outpatient facilities. He also practiced cardiac, pediatric, coma recovery, sports medicine, general, and musculo-skeletal rehabilitation. 

Having the opportunity to help injured patients walk again is what he considers to be the greatest thrill of his career. He also provides free services to people who cannot afford certain medical services.

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also known as Physiatry and physiatrics, is a branch of medicine that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities. Physiatrists treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. 

An interesting fact about Dr. Raguthu is that he became involved in his profession because of his desire to help others and the influence and support of his family, many of whom are renowned physicians. He attributes his success to his discipline, hard work, dedication, and ability to derive fulfillment from within his profession. In the coming years, he hopes to expand his practice to three or more locations.
