Get to know Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician Dr. Cheryl Tierney-Aves, who serves the population of Pennsylvania. Dr. Tierney-Aves completed her undergraduate degree with Binghamton University where she graduated with the her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1992. She then obtained her Medical Degree in 1996 from Tufts University School of Medicine. Giving her over two decades worth of experience in her field. Wanting to further her education in 2002 she graduated with her Masters of Public Health Degree from Harvard School of Public Health. After graduating with her Medical Degree Dr. Tierney-Aves completed her Pediatrics Internship with Carolinas Medical Center Levine Children’s Hospital followed by her pediatrics residency with the same institution. Wanting to further her training she then completed her combined behavioral and developmental pediatrics and general academic pediatrics fellowship with The Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Tierney-Aves is certified in Behavior and Developmental Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. To stay up to date in her field she remains a professional member of the The Society for Developmental, Behavioral Pediatrics, and the Academic Pediatric Association. She currently practices as an Associate Professor within the Department of Pediatrics with PennState College of Medicine. She holds an expertise in speech and language disorders to include autism and childhood apraxia of speech as well as pediatric behavioral sleep disorders. Developmental-behavioral pediatricians evaluate, counsel, and provide treatment for children, adolescents, and their families with a wide range of developmental and behavioral difficulties, including: Learning disorders including dyslexia, writing difficulties, math disorders, and other school-related learning problems, Attention and behavioral disorders including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and associated conditions including oppositional-defiant behavior, conduct problems, depression, and anxiety disorders, Tics, Tourette syndrome, and other habit disorders, Regulatory disorders including sleep disorders, feeding problems, discipline difficulties, complicated toilet-training issues, enuresis (bedwetting), and encopresis (soiling), Developmental disabilities including cerebral palsy, spina bifi da, mental retardation, autism spectrum disorders, and visual and hearing impairments, Delayed development in speech, language, motor skills, and thinking ability, Behavioral and developmental problems complicating the full range of pediatric chronic illnesses and disabling conditions (for example, genetic disorders, epilepsy, prematurity, diabetes, asthma, cancer).
