Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Jo-Anne Passalacqua, who serves patients in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Dr. Passalacqua is an infectious disease specialist who is currently serving patients in the Yale New Haven Health System .  

Dr. Passalacqua is also affiliated with St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut and is the current Chief of Infectious Diseases. St. Vincent’s is a 473-bed community hospital, providing a range of inpatient, outpatient and specialized services.

Dr. Passalacqua received her undergraduate degree from SUNY at Binghamton, Binghamton, New York.  Thereafter, she went on to receive her medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York in 1992.  After graduation, Dr. Passalacqua completed her internship and residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She also completed her fellowship training in infectious diseases with the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Passalacqua is board-certified in both internal medicine and infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Infectious disease is a specialty which deals with all problems related to infection, including post travel and post-surgical infections.  Infectious disease specialists, like Dr. Passalacqua, identify how a disease – ranging from flu to hospital acquired infections such as pneumonia – is caused. They then determine what course of treatment, if any, is necessary.  Patients may also seek Dr Passalacqua’s care for preventive health such pre-employment or pre-travel vaccination.
