Can chiropractors fix scoliosis?
Research shows that a combination of bracing, corrective exercise and chiropractic adjustments can help reduce the curvature of scoliosis. The amount of reduction depends on how her bones are maturing as the window of opportunity for improvement is limited and closes around the age of 18. Taronté E. What is the difference between a physical therapist and a chiropractor?
A chiropractor is more concerned with joint movement primarily and the muscle system secondarily, as a physical therapist may focus more on the muscle system first and the joints secondarily. Honestly, both professions should be addressing both systems in any musculoskeletal complaint patient. Depending on the chiropractic practitioner you see, they may integrate both systems equally. When searching for a well-rounded chiropractor, ask their office if they incorporate exercise with their treatments. I personally find incorporating chiropractic adjustments with corrective exercise and functional movement patterns to be highly affective. Taronté E. Venable, DC, DACNB READ MORE
Can chiropractors prescribe medications?
Unfortunately, no chiropractor is able to prescribe medication. It is possible to seek co-management of your condition with a referral from your chiropractor to an medical doctor specializing pain management. This way you can continue chiropractic care and be prescribed medication for your pain. Some states allow chiropractors to recommend natural herbs and/or vitamin supplements that may help manage inflammation as well as reduce pain. However, this all depends on the severity of your condition as these methods may take days to weeks to take affect. READ MORE
How can chiropractors help my son's ADHD?
Some chiropractors, like myself, specialize in neurology and have functional solutions for some common neurological conditions. It requires consistency but for example, eye movement therapy has been shown to increase function in the part of the brain that isn’t firing well enough to manage ADHD. Also, there have been some correlations with nutrient deficiencies contributing to ADHD. Please note that adjustments without ‘brain exercise’ and/or nutrition are not likely to help reduce your son’s ADHD. In addition, depending on the severity of your son’s condition, the affect of this style of treatment may just reduce the dosage of medicine your son needs to take; although it is also possible for him to not need medication depending on how he responds to treatment. Everyone is different. READ MORE
Foot pain from tennis. What can a chiropractor do to help?
Yes, a chiropractor can help with this situation. A thorough examination is needed to rule out conditions that may simply require time off from playing tennis if there happens to be a hairline fracture or significant heel spur growth from plantar fascia irritation. Aside from those conditions, a chiropractor would be able to mobilize the joints in your foot or ankle that may be contributing to you pain by restricting movements, release soft tissues and prescribe corrective exercises based on the type of foot you have; a flat foot, high arch, rigid or hyper-mobile foot. Depending on who you see, there are also various techniques that may also speed your recovery, but a proper examination is the first step. Taronté E. Venable, DC, DACNB READ MORE
