Get to know Medical Oncologist Dr. Stanley E. Waintraub, who serves patients in Hackensack, New Jersey. 

Dr. Waintraub is a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in breast medical oncology and hematology-oncology. He serves as the Chief of Hematology & Co-Chief of Breast Oncology at John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack, New Jersey.

A part of Hackensack University Medical Center, John Theurer Cancer Center is New Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive cancer program. In less than 25 years, it has become one of the most prominent programs nationwide, with more than 1,200 team members collaborating in a highly subspecialized and multidisciplinary environment.

A 1977 graduate of New York Medical College, Dr. Waintraub went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at Metropolitan Hospital Center in 1978 and 1980, respectively. This was followed by a fellowship in hematology at Montefiore Medical Center in 1982, and a fellowship in oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1983. 

In addition to being actively involved in breast cancer research, the doctor is board-certified internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the American College of Physicians (Fellow), the American Medical Association, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Bergen County Medical Society. 

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist. They have special training in diagnosing and treating cancer in adults using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy.

In honor of his clinical expertise, Dr. Waintraub has been named a Top Doctor in Jersey’s Best (2010 – 2019), a Top Doctor for Cancer in Jersey’s Best (2012 – 2019), a Top Doctor in New Jersey Monthly (2001), a Top Doctor in the New York Metro Area (digital guide / 2016 – 2020), among others.
