Get to know Surgeon Dr. David G. Draughn, who serves patients in North Carolina.
Board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Draughn, is currently serving patients at his private practice, Vein Specialists of the Carolinas, located in Gastonia and Charlotte, North Carolina. He had performed general, laparoscopic, vascular, and thoracic surgery in private practice since 1993. In 2006, he focused his practice exclusively on venous disorders.
Dr. Draughn is a registered vascular technologist and a registered physician in vascular interpretation. He is a leader in the field, has led multiple studies in vein research, and has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals.
His academic career began when he earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, Mississippi in 1987. He then went on to complete his surgical internship at the University of Kentucky. Followed by his surgical residency training at Louisiana State University (LSU) from 1988 to 1993. He was the Chief Resident of general surgery at LSU from 1992 to 1993.
Thereafter, he became a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM). Only 1% of phlebology doctors have board certification with the ABVLM.
Truly a forever student, Dr. Draughn knows that remaining on the cutting edge of new technologies and techniques is the only means to providing the most modern and up-to-date vein procedures. For this reason, he attends and occasionally teaches or presents research at major vein meetings. One of the things he enjoys most is educating his patients.
In order to stay up to date in his field, the doctor remains a member of the American College of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, the American Venous Forum, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Mecklenburg Medical Society. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a former President and member of the Gaston County Medical Society.
