Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Ronald Balkissoon, who serves patients in Denver, Colorado.

A top professional in the field of pulmonology, Dr. Balkissoon is an attending physician within the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at National Jewish Health. He specializes in severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic cough, effects of environmental tobacco smoke, occupational/environmental asthma, latex allergy, vocal cord dysfunction and sarcoidosis.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Balkissoon earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Queen’s University, Kingston in Ontario, Canada, and completed his diploma in Industrial Hygiene at the University of Toronto. He went on to complete his medical education, residency in respirology and critical care, Master of Science degree in Design, Measurement & Evaluation, and fellowship at McMaster University.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Canada (FRCPC), he is an active member of the Colorado Trudeau Society, the American Thoracic Society, the Canadian Thoracic Society, the Ontario Thoracic Society, and the Canadian Medical Association.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.
