Dr. Klasing is a trusted adult and geriatric psychiatrist who has been named Medical Director of Unity Psychiatric Care in Huntsville, Alabama, one of five specialty hospitals owned by American Health Partners. He also offers outpatient psychiatric care from a separate office suite at the hospital.
In his role as Medical Director, he provides direct care for hospital patients, outpatient care, leadership for a multi-disciplinary team, and clinical oversight for the psychiatric nurse practitioners. He maintains office hours at the hospital, offers care through a telehealth service, and visits residents in nearby nursing homes and assisted-living facilities who need psychiatric care.
Prior to joining the hospital, Dr. Klasing oversaw inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services for the department of psychiatry of a regional healthcare system in North Carolina. During his tenure there, he helped develop key performance metrics to measure and improve patient outcomes. He has also practiced telepsychiatry to reach patients unable to travel to him for care.
With a broad educational background, he earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He then went on to serve his residency in psychiatry at the University of Alabama Medical Center.
In addition to his extensive clinical experience in behavioral healthcare, Dr. Klasing has a degree in engineering from Vanderbilt University and served in the U.S. Navy.
With over 25 years’ experience diagnosing and treating psychiatric conditions, he is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
