Get to know Internist and Hospitalist Dr. Alpana Sinha, who serves patients in London, Kentucky.

Dr. Sinha is a board-certified internist and hospitalist, who is affiliated with Saint Joseph London, a 150-bed, regional hospital located in London, Kentucky. Founded in 1926, the hospital offers the latest technology along with nationally ranked, award-winning services. After earning her Medical Degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College in Delhi, India in 1987, Dr. Sinha relocated to the United States. There, she completed her residency in internal medicine at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Illinois in 2007. 

Following her training, she became board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Additionally, she attained membership with the Society of Hospital Medicine. 

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They are skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated or multi-system disease processes. In addition, they care for hospitalized and ambulatory patients and may play a major role in teaching and research.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. Internal physicians whose primary professional focus is caring for hospitalized patients only while they are in the hospital are called hospitalists.
