Does it hurt when acupuncture needles are inserted in the body?
Acupuncture rarely "hurts." The most that people experience is a dull ache around the base of the inserted needle, or a slight tingling feeling when the needle is inserted. Points at the extremities, like the toe or finger ends, can sometimes be a little sharp, but the sensation is usually brief. When patients receive an acupuncture treatment for the first time, they often report having a variety of sensations. Some people describe feeling a dull ache, a tingling or pulsating sensation, or experience nothing at all. Romi Epstein, LAc READ MORE
Is it true that people suffering from high blood pressure should not try acupuncture?
Hi, In fact, acupuncture can help with high blood pressure (HBP)! There are a handful of points, but there are two ear points that may not conflict with your weight loss treatment. Your acupuncturist can tell you if they can add them into your treatment, so be sure to let them know about the HBP so they can take it into consideration. READ MORE

I feel very sleepy after my acupuncture session. Is this normal?
Hi, It is a normal response to feel sleepy after acupuncture, though it doesn't happen to everyone or necessarily on every treatment. One of the common side effects of Acupuncture is calming the parasympathetic nervous system. This can feel relaxation or sleepiness. I encourage you to ask your Acupuncturist about it. They may be able to modify the Acupuncture points they are using or it may be an integral part of your treatment depending upon what it is your working on. In general, talking with our practitioner is the best way to get specific information concerning what they are doing for you. READ MORE
How does acupuncture treat indigestion?
Hi, Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are both shown to be beneficial for indigestion. That said, there are many different causes of indigestion and getting a proper diagnosis is the first step in a treatment plan. Indigestion can be treated without Chinese medicine, but depending on the diagnosis, it may be a worthwhile addition. I'm happy to discuss this further or schedule a first treatment if you are ready to move forward. Best wishes, Romi Epstein, EAMP READ MORE
