He is a highly experienced physician with 20 years in the field of Endocrinology/Diabetes/Metabolism, both in private practice and research.  He received his medical degree, graduating in the top 10% of his class, from Aleppo University School of Medicine in Aleppo, Syria, in April 1993.  He completed his fellowship in Endocrinology & Metabolism at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois in 2001.

Dr. Akhrass joined the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic in San Antonio, Texas as sixth partner in February 2007.  He is highly regarded by his patients and peers, and is on the Healthgrades Honor Roll.  Accomplished in the field of research and a  published author, Dr. Akhrass has had articles in peer-reviewed journals.  He is an active member of several esteemed professional groups, including the Endocrine Society, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

In February of 2007, he joined the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic (DGD) in San Antonio, Texas as sixth partner.

Founded in July of 1979, DGD offers the best in treatment for hormonal and metabolic disorders such as type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, lipid disorders (high cholesterol), pituitary and adrenal gland disease, menstrual disorders and hirsutism (excessive facial hair on women). The board certified physicians continue to strive for innovative treatments while serving their communities with excellence in patient care in all departments within the clinic and will continue to carry out this legacy in the years to come.

A Syrian native, Dr. Akhrass received his Medical Degree, graduating in the top 10% of his class, from Aleppo University School of Medicine in April of 1993.  He then completed his residency in internal medicine at Union Memorial Hospital and his fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois in 2001.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, and in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Prior to joining DGD, Dr. Akhrass was the Chief of Staff at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Medical Center, and was on staff at Dodge City Medical Center.
