Dr. Robert Lehman is a pediatrician practicing in Virginia Beach, VA. Dr. Lehman is dedicated to seeing infants, children and adolescents in a friendly, patient and family focused pediatric practice.  Founded by Dr. Lehman in 1990, Pediatric Affiliates is dedicated to being the premier pediatric practice in the Tidewater area.  Being an independent practice, parents have the opportunity to have pediatricians who focus to children in an intimate, close setting without the "corporate feel" of many other practices in the area.  Dr. Nancy Wick along with Dr. Lehman share a vision to be available to our patients 24/7/365.  We will treat you like our own family and will do whatever is necessary to help parents bring up their children with prevention of disease, maintaining developmental milestones, discussion of treatment modalities and education of illnesses as our pillars of quality.

Dr. Lehman is a board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatrician who sees patients at Pediatric Affiliates of Hampton Roads in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he practices alongside Dr. Nancy A. Wick, MD. The doctor-duo are the founders of the practice.

At present, he is on active staff within the Department of Pediatrics at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital (since June 1989) and the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center (June 1989 – June 1990, then September 1996 to present). He also holds academic appointments as an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School and as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

The doctor is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), which is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties. Founded in 1933, the ABP is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certificate is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence. Certification by the ABP has one objective, to promote excellence in medical care for children and adolescents.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Lehman earned his Associate of Science degree from Ferrum College, as well as his Bachelor of Science in Biology and his Master of Science in Biology from Old Dominion University. In 1982, he obtained his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. 

Wanting to further his education, he went on to complete his internship in pediatrics within the Department of Pediatrics at the Naval Regional Medical Center in 1983. This was followed by an internship and residency in pediatrics within the Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in 1987 and 1989, respectively. 

On the subject of his military experience, Dr. Lehman served as a General Medical Officer within the United States Navy in the III Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan in 1984, and the Sewell’s Point Branch Medical Clinic in Norfolk, Virginia in 1986. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in June of 1986. 

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, he is a member of the Tidewater Pediatric Society, the Virginia Pediatric Society, the Medical Society of Virginia, the Norfolk Academy of Medicine, the Children’s Health Network, the Tidewater Maimonides Society, and the Okinawa Medical Society.

Moreover, among his committee appointments, he serves as a member of the Physician Advisory Group at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (1993 – present), a member of the Finance/Contracting Committee at Children’s Health Network (1995 – present), a member of the Board of Jewish Community Center of Tidewater (1995 – present), a member of the Weight Management Committee at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (1998 – present), a member of the Board of Congregation Beth El in Norfolk, Virginia (2001 – present), a member of the Immunization Committee at Children’s Health Network (2007 – present), a mentor of the Longitudinal Generalist Medicine Program, EVMS (July 2008 – present), a member of the Sentara Information Technology Committee (August 2008 – present), a member of the Pediatric Council at the American Academy of Pediatrics – Virginia Chapter (2009 – present), a member of the Sentara Quality Care Network (February 2014 – present), and a member of the Israel Committee, Community Relations Committee (November 2016 – present). 

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends people be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. As a pediatrician, Dr. Lehman provides medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. He is trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all of their developmental stages, as they grow and mature. 

Recognized for his various achievements and contributions to the field of pediatrics, Dr. Lehman was awarded the James W. Hayes Faculty Teaching Award (2002), named Top Doc by Hampton Roads Magazine (October 2011), named Top Doc by Tidewater Magazine (September 2012 & 2013), awarded the Southside Virginia “Gold Award for Best Pediatric Physician” by Coastal Virginia Magazine (July 2014), and awarded the “Gold Award for Best Pediatric Practice in Tidewater” by Coastal Virginia Magazine (July 2018), among others. He has conducted numerous publications, research projects, and presentations.
