Get to know Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr. James A. Salerno, who serves patients in Hollywood, Florida.

Dr. Salerno specializes in the treatment of post-transplant, cancer, and medically complex patients, including those with cardio-pulmonary dysfunction. He is serving patients at Memorial Rehabilitation Institute at Memorial Regional Hospital South in Hollywood, Florida. In 2003, he earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2006, where he served as chief resident of the internal medicine residency program. Thereafter, he moved to South Florida for his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Prior to joining Memorial, Dr. Salerno served as both Division Chief and Medical Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. 

As for the doctor’s achievements, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. He is also board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, whose mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. 

Furthermore, he is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Florida Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Florida Medical Association. 

Physical medicine and rehabilitation, also known as physiatry and physiatrics, is a branch of medicine that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities.
