Dr. Paul Cagle Jr. is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director at Mt. Sinai specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. Dr Cagle currently focuses on shoulder and elbow surgery spanning from sports injuries, to rotator cuff tears, to minimally invasive surgery, to fracture care to joint replacement for arthritis. He started his career at SIU where he was the Orthopaedic Surgery Department Chair and head of Clinical and Translational Research. During his education, he completed a shoulder and elbow fellowship at Mount Sinai, and he chose to follow his fellowship with additional training in shoulder replacement, shoulder stabilization and rotator cuff repair in Lyon, France with acclaimed shoulder surgeon Dr. Gilles Walch. He graduated with honors from St. Ambrose University where he was a collegiate football athlete and a two time Academic All-America Scholar Athlete. He earned his medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and he then completed his orthopeadic surgery residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Dr. Cagle is an internationally recognized board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder surgery, elbow surgery, and sports medicine. He provides the most cutting-edge treatment of shoulder issues such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder arthritis, shoulder joint replacement, shoulder instability, labral tears, shoulder or elbow fractures, dislocations, biceps tendon rupture, pectoralis ruptures, shoulder separation, bursitis, impingement, tennis elbow, cubital tunnel syndrome, throwing injuries, and weight lifting/fitness injuries. At present, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics and the Associate Program Director of the Orthopaedics Surgery Program at the prestigious Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. 

He is also affiliated with the Mount Sinai Health network. More specifically, he tends to patients at Mount Sinai West Hospital-Patient Office, Mount Sinai Brooklyn Heights, and Mount Sinai Union Square. He performs surgical procedures at the Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Downtown Hospital locations.

During his collegiate years, Dr. Cagle was a two-time Academic All-America Scholar-Athlete in the sport of football, and he reflects on these years to help understand and treat athletes at all levels today. He attended medical school in his hometown of Chicago at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, where he was a recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 2013, followed by his shoulder & elbow fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2014. From there, he traveled to Lyon, France for additional subspecialty training at one of the most recognized shoulder and elbow fellowships in the world.  

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. 

An emerging leader in the American Orthopaedic Association and an elected member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, Dr. Cagle has published over 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters, as well as has presented nationally and internationally at scientific conferences. He holds patent rights for medical device development and continues to be at the forefront of medical education.
