Dr. Schaeffer is a pain management specialist who is currently serving patients at CNY Spine and Pain Medicine in Liverpool, New York. He also performs nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, and joint drainage From 1998 through 2001, Dr. Schaeffer taught at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania.

At a very young age, Dr. Schaeffer felt a calling to help people. While he was in school for his undergraduate degree, he realized that he could best achieve helping others through a career in medicine. While pursuing a medical degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now known as Drexel University College of Medicine), his interest in the world of pain management blossomed. “I realized quickly that the act of helping an individual with pain or physical limitations maximize his or her functional capabilities brought me great inner satisfaction” said Dr. Schaeffer. He then went on to complete his residency and his internship at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Schaeffer is dual board-certified in pain medicine and physical medicine & rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). The mission of the ABPMR is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is accomplished through a process of certification and maintenance of certification that fosters excellence and encourages continuous learning.

Dr. Schaeffer keeps up to date with the latest advances in pain medicine by being an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and other specialty organizations. He is also a founding member of the New York State Pain Society.

As a leader in his industry, Dr. Schaeffer has received numerous awards and recognitions, including Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors Award in 2013 and a Patient’s Choice Award in 2014.
