Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Josephine Ruiz-Healy, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Ruiz-Healy is a qualified, caring, and experienced pediatrician who has been in private practice in San Antonio, Texas for over two decades. 

With a focus on pediatrics and integrative medicine, she is culturally sensitive in her approach to offering medical and practical information in the care of infants, children, and adolescents. Being a mother of three herself, she knows how to make children feel comfortable and express themselves.

Recognizing that communication is important in that it enables the pediatrician to understand the condition of a child better, Dr. Ruiz-Healy and her staff are bilingual, offering services in both English and Spanish. They also participate in teaching students from various prestigious universities.

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, she is affiliated with Methodist Children’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital.

At the start of her academic career, Dr. Ruiz-Healy graduated with her medical degree from the School of Medicine at Anahuac University in Mexico in 1983. She then relocated to the United States, completing her residency in pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1986, where she is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics. She also completed additional training, which included a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Austin State Hospital.

Certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends individuals be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all of their developmental stages, as they grow and mature.

Among Dr. Ruiz-Healy’s numerous accolades include On-Time Doctor Award (2009), Patients’ Choice Award (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), Patients’ Choice 5th Anniversary Award (2013), and Compassionate Doctor Award – 5 Year Honoree (2013).

On a more personal note, she is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish.
